Theory Test

Everyone who wishes to take their test on a motorcycle must first complete and pass a motorcycle theory test.

The test comprises 2 sections:

a multiple choice section containing 50 questions of which you need to get at least 43 correct in 57 minutes to pass. These questions are about the Highway code, riding theory and Hazard Perception. You can buy a book written by the DSA conatining all of the questions and all of the answers. So in essence read the book carefully and you should have no problem in the test. We have copies of the book available for purchase or hire. If you click on our Links page there are a couple of sites which have online multiple choice theory tests for you to try.

and a hazard perception element. This element tests your ability to recognise hazards shown on a series of video clips. You are graded on your reaction time at spotting the developing hazards. There are 14 video clips in total with 13 containing 1 main hazard and 1 containing 2. The pass mark is 44 out of a possible 75. This section needs some careful homework as it is written for new drivers and the hazards you are expected to spot are blatant ie something that causes you to change either your speed or direction. In our experience it is recomended that you click the mouse when you see a hazard that makes you physically change either your speed or direction, not when you see something that might happen, this is a possible hazard not a developing one.

You will be given your result before you leave the theory centre.

The test is taken at a special centre in the city centre, directions will be provided to get you there, or take a look at our Map page. This exam is unique, to our knowledge it is the only exam where yon an legitimately purchase a book with all the answers in it. Copies of this book are available at the training centre. To help with understanding the hazard perception element we are also able to rent out an explanation video and pc cd rom with sample clips.

Theory Test - £40 - this includes hire of the media to help you study and pass first time.
